Castles in poland

Poland in the history was ruled either by dukes (from 9th to 14th century) or by kings and queens (from 11th to 18th century). Due to the long and sometimes complicated history each part of Poland has a beautiful castle or palace as the remaining of the royal times. In consequence Poland have 419 castles and 2021 palaces!

The below list presents just a small selection of the most beautiful castles you can visit during your stay in Poland.

Czocha Castle

The castle is located in Czocha village, the Castle construction was ordered by Wenceslaus I of Bohemia, in the middle of the 13th century.

Dunajec Castle

The castle is located in the southernmost part of Poland in Niedzica was erected between the years 1320 and 1326 by Kokos of Brezovica and is surrounded by walls in the Pieniny mountains.

Moszna Castle

Moszna is a small village in south-west Poland, approximately 30 km from the biggest city in the region – Opole. The historic castle and residence located in a small village of Moszna. The history of this building begins in the 17th century,

Wawel Castle

The Wawel castle residency was built at the behest of King Casimir III the Great, who reigned from 1333 to 1370. The castle consists of a number of structures situated around the central courtyard which makes the Polish Kings residence one of the most impressive historic monuments in Poland.

Malbork Castle

Malbork is the largest castle in the world measured by land area located in the Polish town of Malbork. It was originally built by the Teutonic Knights and in 1466 both castle and town became part of Royal Prussia.

Książ Castle

Książ is a castle located in Wałbrzych was built in 1288-1292. During the II World War it has been claimed that the castle was being outfitted as a future abode for Adolf Hitler.

Będzin Castle

The castle is located in Będzin in southern Poland. The stone castle dates to the 14th century, and was predated by a wooden fortification that was erected in the 11th century. It used to be an important fortification in the Kingdom of Poland.

Nowy Wiśnicz Castle

Located on a forested hill by the river in the village of Stary Wiśnicz, southern Poland. The castle was raised in the second half of the XIV century, built in the Baroque architectural style with Renaissance elements.

Royal Castle in Warsaw

The Castle was a castle residency that formerly served throughout the centuries as the official residence of the Polish monarchs. The personal offices of the king and the administrative offices of the Royal Court of Poland.

Wilanów Place

Wilanowski Palace completed in 1696 is located in the Wilanów district in Warsaw. It is one of Poland’s most important monuments. The Palace’s museum, established in 1805, is a repository of the country’s royal and artistic heritage.

Keep in mind that during November you can visit Wawel Castle, Royal Castle in Warsaw and Wilanów Palace for free. “The Royal November” is celebrated every year in Poland and gives an opportunity to visit the royal residences and other historic monuments with no fee.
