Public Transportation in Wroclaw

There is no such thing as the best public transport in Wroclaw, as all means of transport in the city are efficient, convenient, and safe. Day trams and buses usually travel from 5 a.m to 11 p.m on working days and from 6 a.m to 10 p.m on weekends and holidays. As there are no night trams, you should catch night buses, which travel from 11.30 p.m to 5 a.m.

Types of Public Transport in Wroclaw




Tram: Currently in Wroclaw there are 20 lines operating for trams. Usually, comparing the trams to buses, they use to be quicker and much more convenient for the tourists as they have got ticket machines. This means that tourists may not worry about language barrier buying the ticket for transport but just switch the language on the ticket machine!





Bus: Wroclaw has more than 60 bus lines, which based on the areas where trams do not operate. It is hard to say that any of the transport is better as they are not competing but work in harmony to make it for people much easier to commute to the place of interest. It is important to mention that buses in Wroclaw are divided into two groups:  regular (numbers from 100-149) and night ones (numbers from 250 to 259).




Ferry: When the weather is warm and not windy, it is worth to take a ferry for moving around Wroclaw.  As there are several islands and canals in the center of the city, another alternative of public transport is water transport. There is also a special ferry route, which goes from the center directly to the Zoo.



Types of Tickets

In Wroclaw, there are several types of tickets:

  • single ride tickets (good to use when you are using public transport not  really often)
  • multi-ride passes (is applicable for students who need to commute to university every day, it does pay off if you buy ticket for 3 months by taking advantage of your student status and getting 50% discount)
  • time tickets (applicable if you do not have multi-pass and you need to make several rides during 24 hours)

The tickets for public transport can be bought in both kiosks and ticket machines. It is important to remember that the ticket machines inside buses and trams, do not take cash but credit cards only.
